Climate Change History

Climate change action in New York is primarily based on Executive Order 24, signed by Governor Patterson.  This order establishes a greenhouse gas reduction target for New York and creates a body tasked with producing a Climate Action Plan.  The final plan is due by the end of 2010.  Current climate change work in New York focuses heavily on greenhouse gas reductions and mineral and physical sequestration strategies.  Some wildlife initiatives are underway as well.

Current & Future Action

Much of New York’s current and future action is still being formulated and will be described in the Climate Action Plan due by the end of 2010.   Available documentation is presently limited.  In 2007 the State Legislature created the Sea Level Rise Task Force which works to build resilience for New York’s costal ecosystems and communities.

Pilot Programs/Current Studies

The state does not, as yet, have any specific pilots or case studies dealing with wetlands and climate change.
