Climate Change History

Pennsylvania is currently revising its climate action plan – a process it is committed to on a three year cycle.  The Center for Climate Strategies is assisting the State with this process.  The climate plan is focused on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (mitigation) and does not include the preparation of state resources to deal with climate change effects already underway (adaptation).

Current & Future Action

Since March of 2010 the Department of Environmental Protection in conjunction with other stakeholders has been developing an initial document discussing the need for adaptation strategies in Pennsylvania.  Wetlands and wetland functions fall under the purview of the natural resources and infrastructure working groups.  This document is expected by the end of 2010.

Pilot Programs/Current Studies

The state does not, as yet, have any specific pilots or case studies dealing with wetlands and climate change.
